thomas schumacher is finally back on noir music with another outstanding 2-tracker. over the years me and thomas have become great friends as we click on so many levels and share the same taste in dark, melancholic and emotional music. i have been a big fan of thomas’ music for many years and i am still a great supporter of his productions today so obviously i am honored to release his music on my label again. on these 2 tracks thomas has recorded 2 authentic and raw tracks with a no holding back, zero bulls*** attitude. you can hear the “no formular” approach on both and i love that. we had an honest and creative back and forth a&r process on both tracks before and after testing them in the clubs and this has given both a unique and fresh techno sound. this is thomas schumacher’s natural rhythm.

the brooklyn sessions bring together old and new pinkman friends. annanan returns, this time with maroje t, for three pieces of ny darkness. acid tainted torment opens the 12inch, pain and rejection catalogued in the barren confrontations in terms of sexuality. i saw you maintains that cold edge. militaristic percussion is dipped in industrial grease, lost samples circling in a haze of distortion. the pair explore reduction with tracks being boiled down to leave only distilled dread behind. the breathy vocals of i am close, drum patterns looped into machine groan and the aching abyss.

steve bug and cle go way back. as friends, dj colleagues, co-producers and label mates the pair have enjoyed a close bond for nearly twenty years. their rejected debut sees them stepping back into the studio once again to create a brand new brace of acid-tinged club cuts that whilst looking to past, are focused firmly on the future.

turn the record and prepare to embark on a ‘random night’. this is sonodab turning up the energy levels and taking you on a trip into another dimension to close out the ep ‘elecmann’, plays out like an ode to the good old electro days, slightly reminicent of juan atkins’ early work as model500. like the rest of the tracks on this release, sonodab adds soft pads in places to change the mood and keep things moving.

supérieur goes for round two after its relaunch in autumn last year. some of you might be surprised that we re breaking up with the single release concept of having one original and one remix, but we believe the time has come to do so. supérieur will be more independent in the future, with an own artist roaster and also with a different sound than the one deliver with connaisseur. this release is by the highly respected south german producer and dj hans thalau, partisan of the techno soul approach, which was celebrated for years by russ gabriel and his ferox recordings crew. it comes as no suprise that hans and russ are friends. hans -soul adventure ep- is a timeless affair. three tracks full of emotional deepness and classiness, and probably thal communications mastermind best works so far. we re rather proud to be able to release these tunes, as they do strike our chord exactly.

having made himself an indispensable member of the uk soul/funk scene, playing live performances of ‘zoology’ to much acclaim, as well as setting up a regular groove night at london’s 606 jazz club, carl has recently finished work on his second album - pixel planet, which tells the story of an alien spacecraft, exploring our solar system, 30.000 years into the future - looking for the last bastion of human activity long after we have departed. this dystopian tale is told using a huge array of cosmic electronics, many of which were soldered together by carl himself, including his own diy synthesiser - the recyclotron 64 - constructed out of commodore 64 chips and built in an mdf box, and providing some of the monster bass lines on this album. as well as calling in the digisoul gang, some new friends appear on this album, including powerhouse drummers pete ray biggin, and ‘jungle’ jimmy norden.

what does teen spirit smell like, anyway? it might smell something like noise addict. like the real life stars of some sort of choose-your-own-adventure book about pursuing rock stardom, few bands ever led a more charmed existence, springing from the sydney suburb of bondi into seemingly overnight international fame as friends and collaborators of sonic youth, fugazi, and the beastie boys. through a combination of relentless drive, luck, and an admirable lack of self-doubt, noise addict spanned puberty to surpass the haters and join radio birdman and nick cave as a strange but permanent piece of australian punk history.
compiled here are 25 tracks, including their evan dando-worshipping satire “i wish i was him,” the thurston moore produced demo, choice cuts from their grand royal-issued ep and lp, and covers of “let’s lynch the landlord” and “back in your life.” the entire sordid adolescent tale is covered in incredible detail inside the black and white 16 page zine. and finally, for the first time in the history of record pressing, and for no good reason at all, the cover for 10.000 kids with guitars doubles as a working chalkboard.

amsterdam producers and good friends kaap and scott franka have come together to start a new label and live act: working titles. kaap is best known as the label boss of tape cassette label yield, scott just debuted with his first 12” on quartet series. together they perform primarily hardware based live sessions. for their label they improvise, jam and record to press these takes only on vinyl. the idea is to capture the real, raw and authentic improvised moments as soon as possible after they happen, hence the name working titles. this first vinyl release features the wt001 and wt002 outtakes on one disc. these sessions were recorded by the pair in an abandoned cabin in the woods in the south of holland, surrounded by nature.

(handmade sleeve / with download code) his debut vinyl is a recording of the longrunning piece stanzas or the law of the good neighbour. on each side, a pair of his friends reads simultaneously from a list of words. the list is an unfinished result of a word game andersen has been playing for several years. stanzas… seems to be a precise text-sound composition, a liquid and elegant piece of concrete poetry that reveals the individual qualities of the voices and their interpersonal relation.

long time friends cesar merveille and ryan crosson return to visionquest to reignite their ‘merveille & crosson’ project in late may with three fresh, intricately programmed cuts. visionquest boss ryan crosson and parisian cesar merveille need no introductions, with the duo’s back catalogues featuring material on the likes of revered imprints cadenza, desolat, little helpers and mdrnty. 2011 welcomed the introduction of their ‘merveille & crosson’ project, with their debut album ‘drm’ on visionquest gaining plaudits from industry heavyweights including ricardo villalobos, and after a five years absence here we see the duo return once again to deliver ‘dream state’, a three track ep that oozes quality from the off. the a side is home to title cut ‘dream state’, a production that tumbles and twists smoothly around meandering synths, crisp percussion shots and a bumping low ends, typical of the duos free flowing and evolving production styles. on the flip, ‘guns’ sets to work through pitched down vocal loops, sweeping sonics and rich textures all reinforced by a driving bassline that carries plenty of groove, before ‘time contraints’ slowly unveils itself with a series of off-kilter gliches and pops, delicate pads and sophisticated sound arrangement, concluding yet another fluent and immersive offering from merveille & crosson, and an excellent addition to the visionquest catalogue.

london’s breaker breaker continue to build steam behind releases from rgl and the rapidly ascending ross from friends with a fresh 12” courtesy of bristol based half nelson. utilising a meld of hardware, old tape recorders and original instrumentation - the bristol based producer readies the inaugural release on this newly formed alias and in doing so presents the aptly titled ‘first step’.
slotting in neatly with the breaker breaker catalogue, the first step ep smothers burly drums with woozy sampling that work together to build a trippy, floor-ready sound.

this is joels second appearance on kanzleramt after his very much loved solo 12inch reminder in 2006. its also not the first release of the two, as last years drumcode limited release slight munch shows. joel and heiko have been friends for over a decade. the depth of that connection is reflected in rooter as much of this release was designed and realised right at the kitchen table over breakfast or with a good wine while cooking dinner. more parts of those sessions will be following on parabel later this year.
